Big family vacation.

We drive down for a week in Cape Cod with John's family every September after Labor Day. It's usually an amazing week of warm days, cool nights, sunshine mixed with a hint of autumn in the air. The kids play all day and the adults spend nights in front of a fire laughing and eating too many snacks.

This year the weather didn't cooperate! Hurricane Jose decided to bring lots of wind and rain to the Cape, and while it would've been easy to let the poor weather to ruin our vacation, we didn't give in! We got in some beach time in Nauset before the storm got too close. Abram ate sand (ahhhh!!!!) and the bigger kids let the tide splash their toes.

The waves were ENORMOUS! The Parks & Rec teams were actually running tractors along the beach, removing benches and life guard towers from the shore for safety as the storm rolled in.

We took the kids to the Cape Cod Children's Museum for a few hours of fun on one of the more rainy mornings. The kids had a blast and really weren't too disappointed that they couldn't spend every day on the beach.

A surprise bonus to all the rain and wind was all of us being forced to slow down. We didn't hit the ground running every single day; we ate leisurely breakfasts together, played games around the dining table, and took the kids for dips in the hot tub while it was raining! It was a lot of quality family time, which is really the most important part of family vacation.

One of my greatest joys is watching these kiddos develop their relationships as they grow up. Family trips like this are incredibly special and create such sweet memories. Already looking forward to our next adventures together!
